A great start to the year for St Nicholas GFC with a strong win in their first competitive game of the season.

The Nicks were on top for most of the game and put in a very promising performance. It was also great to see a number of players getting their opportunity, with Donal Carr making his first start and four lads making their adult team debuts. Leo Quinn started the game, while Senan Meagher, Ross Brady and Lee O’Driscoll all made big impacts after coming on.

The first half was fairly competitive early on with both sides trading points. The Nicks then began to take control with some well worked scores from Con and Leo. A defensive mishap allowed the home side in for a goal which brought the game level and applied a bit of pressure, particularly with a tricky breeze in play. The response was perfect though, with Con producing a brilliant solo goal, finishing to the top corner of the net. The Nicks went in at half time leading 1-7 to 1-5.

The second half was much more one sided as the Nicks took full control. Three more goals along with some excellent team points stretched the lead, with players coming off the bench continuing the strong team performance.

Overall, a very encouraging start to the season for the Nicks, running out convincing winners on a scoreline of 4-15 to 1-11.
