St Nicholas GFC 1-14
Lannleire 3-11
Half time score
0-7 v 1-9
A perfect evening for football in Pentony Park as St Nicholas welcomed Lannleire, despite a growing injury list.
The Nicks made a strong start, winning the throw-in and opening the scoring through Hayden, followed by a well-worked point from Ruairi. Lannleire responded well, hitting a two-pointer before adding 1-3 without reply to take control. Fionn added the Nicks’ next score after a hard-earned move, but Lannleire continued to apply pressure with two more points. Leo produced a standout moment with an excellent two-pointer from a free, and late scores from the Quinn brothers helped close the gap. Still, Lannleire led at the break, 1-9 to 0-7.
The Nicks came out firing in the second half and quickly drew level. Ross Brady, impressive throughout at full forward, opened the half with a point before Hayden capitalised on a goalkeeping error to find the net. Just as momentum began to swing, Lannleire struck back with a quick 1-1 to regain their advantage.
To their credit, the Nicks responded again with excellent points from Hayden, Fionn, and Sean Hoey. Lannleire edged back in front on the counter, but substitute Paudi Downey made an instant impact, landing two crucial points to level the game once more.
With the game in the balance, Lannleire found the decisive moment late on, hitting a goal in the closing stages while the Nicks pushed forward in search of a winner.
A disappointing result in the end, but plenty of positives for St Nicholas, with strong performances across the pitch—particularly from younger players like Brady and the Quinn brothers.
