Challenging conditions in Pentony Park yesterday evening for our first home league game against Cuchulainn Gaels.

St. Nicholas started brightly, opening the scoring through Ruairi, but Cuchulainn soon settled into the game and began to take control. A few handling errors and costly decisions in the first half allowed the visitors to build momentum, hitting a goal and a point in quick succession. Points from Paudi and Hayden kept us in touch, while Sam added another before the break, but Cuchulainn held the advantage at half-time on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-04.

The Nicks emerged much stronger in the second half. Paudi and Hayden both added early points before Sam found the net to edge us into a one-point lead. Further scores from Paudi, along with a well-worked short free finished by Sam, pushed us three points clear heading into the final ten minutes.

However, Cuchulainn finished strongly, making full use of the conditions to draw level. Credit to the Nicksโ€™ defence, who stood firm under pressure in the closing stages to ensure the game ended all square, 1-08 apiece.

Next up is an away trip to Dundalk to face Na Pairsaigh.
