HT 1-7 v 0-4
Ref; Kevin Levins
The Nicks put up another good showing in Courtbane Tuesday evening. In tiring conditions both teams played out an entertaining fixture with the home team earning the victory. St. Nicholas began the half well taking a two point lead through Kevin Walsh and Philip Kirwan. The full back line of Teige Kelly, Brian Carter and Alan Gregory were defending excellently and it wasn’t until the Mals got a fortunate goal that they extended their lead. The Nicks had few opportunities in the first half but John Heeney was unlucky to see his goal bound effort cleared off the line. Two late points from Walsh anyd a fine individual effort from Barry woods cut the deficit to 6 at the break.
The second half was end to end and a credit to both teams, with the Nicks wing backs Alex Finnegan and Ciaran O’Brien excelling. Points from John Heeney, O’Brien, Jason Maguire and Kevin Walsh kept the Nicks within two scores throughout the half. A fine penalty save from Ciaran Branigan and a Kirwan goal had the home team under severe pressure towards the final whistle but Naomh Malachi held on for the victory.
