Sean McDermotts 2-7 v St.Nicholas 1-13HT 0-4 v 1-3
Páirc Mac Diarmada played host to an exciting and hard fought division 3b encounter on Saturday evening. The Seans played the first half with the aid of the breeze and it was them who registered the first score from play. Hayden Quinn and Aaron Flanagan replied for the visitors to edge the Nicks into the lead. Both teams traded scores, a free for McDermotts and Con Sheehan added one for St.Nicholas. With ten left in the half the Sean McDermotts were reduced to 14 men, the nicks pushed home their advantage as Fionn Meagher hit the back of the net to leave the visitors up by two at the break.
Although the nicks had the lead and the breeze in the second half it was McDermotts who struck first in the second half with a point from play. Caebhan Housidari and Sam Reilly added two more for St.Nicholas to hold their lead. In the middle ten minutes of the half the lead changed hands on numerous occasions, mainly due to the Seans finding the net twice. St. Nicholas’ forwards kept chipping away with points from Quinn, Reilly and Meagher. The final five minutes were tense for both teams following a nicks red card. With both teams looking for a winning score it was the Nicks who kept their composure and extended the lead going into injury time through Caebhan Housidari and a fine Phillip Kirwan point to seal the two points.
